An evening with Cassandra Clare and Mila Furstova

Hey everyone, sorry that this post is coming to you 2 weeks late but I went on holiday straight after the event so didn't have time to write this before I went.

But if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook you will have seen some pictures from an event at Waterstones Hampstead, where I got to meet Cassandra Clare, author of The Mortal Instruments series, and Mila Furstova, the artist who is redesigning the book covers.

The evening was based around art and how it comes in many different forms. As part of the discussion, Mila explained to that she designed the new book covers using a technique called Etching, which is where the design is scratched onto a metal sheet using a shadowing effect to create detail. She showed us and passed around one of the actual prints used for one of the book covers as well as the tools she uses to scratch the design onto the metal sheet. I'd never heard of Etching before so was very interested to learn what is it.

During the discussion, Cassandra Clare chatted away to us about her books and where she got her inspiration from as well as engaging Mila into it by comparing writing and etching and how they both forms of art.

At the end of the event we were able to get our books signed by Cassandra and Mila was signing any of the new copies. We also got a discounted price when buying one of the new books so I brought City of Fallen Angels as I loved the color and design of the cover.

If you were there too, what did you enjoy learning about the most? And which new design is your favorite? Let me know is the comments below!
